Director
Atsushi Wada is a Japanese movie director born in 1980. After his studies in the Kyoiku University of Osaka, at the Japan Institute of moving images and the University of Art of Tokyo, he starts to direct animated short-films starting 2002. He is interested in the delicacy of movements and is inspired by minimalism and the music of the Nô theater, as well as the concept of “”Ma””, which designates the tension between two movements. His short film In a Pig’s Eye (2010) wins the Price for best film of the international selection of the Fantoche festival (Baden, Switzerland) and at the LIAF (London International Animation Festival). The same year, his film The mechanism of Spring premieres in Venice. In 2012, the Great Rabbit win a Silver Bear at the Berlinale.
Atsushi Wada is also a member of CALF, a collective of independent Japanese animators.
